AIA class description

    Concrete countertops, Sinks and Tile are gaining popularity in both residential and commercial applications. In this course, we compare precast and site cast methods, take an inside-out look at the physical and chemical processes in manufacture, explore sealers used in the protection of concrete.  We also look at best practices around specification of the products, design limitations and explore how some particularly challenging builds were performed.

Objectives:

  1. Identify methods used in concrete countertops and how they affect the visual impact of a design.
  2. Understand the common sealer technologies employed for decorative concrete and how it relates to overall client well-being. 
  3. Understand the chemical processes in the manufacture of concrete and how they affect overall design aesthetics.
  4. Define the structural advantages and limitations of concrete countertops in interiors and exteriors.
